Labsphere’s Duraflect® White Reflectance Coating is a proprietary coating designed specifically for use in hostile weather conditions where a high Lambertian reflectance surface is required. Because this high reflectance coating is applied by spray onto a specially prepared surface, it has a greater degree of flexibility and faster application time than traditional tape coating. Spray coating allows for faster prototyping and ensures that final design is not limited by the application process.

Duraflect Coating

Typically a simple cleaning process is all that is required to ensure continued maximum reflectance. Duraflect® has been used to coat integrating cylinders measuring snow pack, underwater targets measuring erosion of reefs, as well as highly sensitive technical and medical instruments.

Surface preparation generally consists of degreasing followed by sandblasting to roughen the surface. For best results, Duraflect® should be applied to metal or glass substrates only. Pre-testing is recommended when applied to plastic substrates. Labsphere is equipped with an in-house coating facility and is also available to perform on-site coating for very large or complex projects.

Duraflect® is generally used in applications in the visible to the very near IR, approximately 350 to 1200 nm. It is stable to approximately 80° C, with slight outgassing at high vacuum. Duraflect® is water resistant, durable and can be used in highly humid conditions. The coating has a typical reflectance value of >95% over the wavelength range from 350 to 1200 nm. Duraflect® is not recommended for use in the UV wavelength range.
