Knowledge Leadership

We lead because we listen.

We are regularly called upon by the industry to guide the future and set the standard. Our people are experts at solving radiometric, photometric, and electro-optical challenges. With deep experience and understanding, we deliver innovative solutions for the most complex applications.

Our People

As experts in radiometry and photometry we can adapt to meet analytical challenges across multiple industries.

Technical Standards

We sit on industry boards and lead professional organizations and are regularly called upon to help guide the future and set standards.

Industry Trailblazers

Our technology has helped shape the industry. That legacy of innovation continues as we continually introduce ground breaking reflective materials, large aperture uniform sources, spectrally tunable calibration sources, and more.

Our People

We aren’t all engineers. We are experts with diverse scientific and industrial backgrounds including material science, chemistry, oceanography, geology, and, of course, several disciplines of engineering. This diversity allows us to see photonic, optical, light metrology, and image and sensor calibration challenges from multiple perspectives to deliver the highest quality solutions. Our team actively engages with industry leading technical committees and academia to advance the technology of light and improve how people live and work.

Industry and Academic Engagement

At Labsphere, advancing the technology of light to build a healthier, cleaner, and safer future isn’t just business. It’s personal.

Members of our team dedicate their personal time to collaborate with industry and academia to write scientific articles and participate in the peer review process. We have a strong track record of contributing to top tier publications including Nature, Science, Remote Sensing, and Marine Pollution Bulletin, to name a few.

We also engage the industry as leading members of technical standard committees such as IEEE Standards Association (P4001 Hyperspectral Imaging Devices), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC 217/WG 7 Sun protection test methods), ANSI-NEMA FL-1 (Flashlight basic performance standard), The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Testing Procedures Committee, and the Council for Radiometric Measurements (CORM).

With more than 40 years of experience, we are the go-to experts in the field.

The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Testing Procedures Committee

The IES exists to advance the art, science, and practice of illumination by investigating, evaluating, and disseminating knowledge. The Society strives to make its findings available to the public and through other scientific, professional, and technical organizations and various other industry groups concerned with lighting.

One avenue of communication is through the Testing Procedures Committee (TPC). The TPC creates publications relating to the photometry of lamps and luminaires. The publications are in the form of approved methods to promote meaningful and comparable test data for the user, or as guides relating to equipment use in testing procedures.

Labsphere leaders have been active TPC members as subcommittee chairs and contributing authors for more than 20 years.

Council for Radiometric Measurements (CORM)

CORM is established as a council to gain consensus among interested parties on national industrial and academic requirements for physical measurement standards, calibration services methodologies, and interlaboratory collaboration programs in the field of optical radiation measurements. CORM’s interests include radiometry and the optical properties of materials. Through national consensus and liaisons with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and other sources of standards and services, CORM advises on the requirements and priorities regarding optical radiation measurements.

CORM works to cooperate with other organizations, both public and private, to accomplish these objectives for the direct and indirect benefit of the public at large.

Labsphere’s leaders have been active in CORM for more than 30 years, serving over 10 years on the board of directors and technical subcommittee chairmanships in an effort to propagate the objective of the Council for the benefit of the industry to improve how people live and work .
