For over 40 years Labsphere has pioneered advancements in diffuse reflectance coatings and materials for use in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared regions. Our groundbreaking products are now widely regarded as industry standards for applications such as proximity sensor tests, source sensor compensation, time of flight (ToF) characterization and more. Our close customer partnerships combined with our advanced technologies for materials processing, machining, and assembly, ensure smooth scalability across low to high-volume production for OEM and in-line testing applications. Our services range from the coating of customer-supplied parts to the design, fabrication, testing and calibration of complete components. We consistently deliver bespoke optical components and reflectance solutions for the analytical instrument, medical device, laser, automotive, semiconductor, aerospace, and consumer electronics sectors.
Diffuse Reflectance Materials for System Characterization and Optical Component Design

Our Spectralon® diffuse reflectance material is a thermoplastic resin that combines durability and ease of customization with unmatched reflectance making it an ideal choice for in-line system characterization, spectroscopy, medical devices, ophthalmology, laser cavity, and optical component OEM applications that demand high reflectance, near-Lambertian surfaces. Spectralon® is ideal for applications across the UV-VIS-NIR, as its reflectance is generally >99% over a range from 400 to 1500 nm and >95% from 250 to 2500 nm. Our precision-engineered Spectralon® gray scale materials extend these benefits by offering spectrally flat reflectance across a dynamic range of reflectance levels. In many cases, Spectralon® can be machined to print. For more complex designs, Labsphere’s engineering team works closely with you to design, manufacture, and support custom solutions from prototype to production and beyond.
Innovative Diffuse Reflectance Coatings for Advanced Photonics Applications
For every application, Labsphere offers high-performance diffuse reflectance coatings that inspire innovation: Spectraflect®, Permaflect®, and Infragold® are engineered to meet the unique demands of your product needs. Spectraflect® is a barium sulfate-based coating offering >98% reflectance in the UV-VIS-NIR range (300–2400 nm) and is ideal for optical components, integrating spheres, lamp housings, and more. Permaflect® provides durable, water-resistant reflectance (>95%) in the visible to near-IR range (350–1200 nm), and is available in gray scale formulas, making it suitable for a variety of demanding applications in outdoor and industrial environments. Infragold®, is a diffuse gold-metallic coating, offering >94% reflectance and optimized for NIR-MIR spectrum (0.7–20 µm) applications. Our engineering team is prepared to help identify your specific needs, recommend the most suitable coating, and assist in designing components and targets for seamless integration into your system or production test environments.

Low Reflectance Material for Sensor Sensitivity Testing

Labsphere has worked closely with the automotive and consumer electronics industries to enable baseline characterization testing of Lidar and ToF sensors. To meet that demand, Labsphere launched Spectrablack®, a low reflectance, light absorbing material that is resistant to abrasion. The material is continuously microporous resulting in unparalleled light absorption. Typical spectral reflectance is 1.6% or less from 250 – 2500 nm. Our engineering teams are ready to define your product needs and integrate Spectrablack® at the system or production test level for your specific application.
Our Commitment
Whether you need a custom reference reflectance standard or integrating chamber for your analytical instrument, in-line calibration and baseline targets to calibrate imaging systems during mass production, or custom reflectance targets to continuously monitor the performance of your lidar system, our engineering teams collaborate with you at every stage of the product lifecycle. Focused on your product’s success, we design photometric and radiometric solutions optimized for manufacturability. Our ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 certified facilities feature cutting-edge technologies for materials processing, machining, and assembly, enabling seamless scalability from low to high-volume production.
